Broken City will be showing “Made in Secret: The Story of the East Van Porn Collective” this evening as part of the Calgary Underground Film Festival.
The film interests for a few reason. One because I spent the last five years living in East Van and secondly because of my ongoing research into porn.
I haven’t seen the movie yet but I’m already casting a bit of a skeptical eye because one of the reason that people like to watch porn is see people more beautiful than themselves fucking. Take away the lighting, the makeup, the fluffers, the shitty soundtrack and add some tattoos, ear plugs, unkempt hair with strumming folk-music and you’ve got something not that far removed in terms of production from the Paris Hilton sex tape.
I am looking forward to it though as I’m expecting sit down at the movie and intermittently scream out, “You dirty little slut! I never knew.” That’s a bit of a stretch though because even though I admire the collectives DIY attitude it’s still ugly people fucking (which when the lights are on, aren’t we all) and for that I’ll take the Paris Hilton any day.
