The Japanese once again blur the line between entertainment and sadism in the popular television show Kensho Seikatsu. In this show aspiring comedian Nasubi answers the call for an audition and unwillingly becomes part of a television show for the next year. He is trapped in a room with no clothes, no means of entertainment, and no food. The only way he can get any of these things is to fill out contest entries found in magazines with the stacks of postcards left in the room. While most Western cultures would never allow something like this citing the Geneva convention, the Japanese love it. It became a ratings smash. If you’re ever in Japan the show can be found at your local video store in the comedy section.
